Did you know that October is national archives month? Why
not test your knowledge of the Delaware Public Archives?

We were created in 1905 by the General Assembly as the
Public Archives Commission, and are one of the oldest archives in the country.
Our first residence was in the old state house.
We house records from all 3 branches of government: legislative,
judicial, and executive.  We also are the
repository for local municipalities. In the late 1990’s a group of citizens
started a petition to get a new archives built. We moved into our new building
in 2001, and we were made our own division in 1999. We have over 4 million
documents, over 800,000 photographs, and over 16,000 audio visual holdings.

No matter what your
interest I’m pretty sure we have something related to it. It’s a great time to
visit your local archives and see all they have to offer.  We are much more than just old dusty papers!

We invite you to stop by and visit us.
